Yaya’s Tips for Success
Make sure your oil is hot enough before frying—about 350°F is ideal. If it’s too cool, your doughnuts will soak up grease.
Don’t skip the nutmeg—it’s what gives that old-fashioned flavor its magic.
Roll your dough gently, and don’t handle it too much or your doughnuts will be tough.
Always do a test doughnut first. It’ll let you know if your oil temp is right and if your seasoning needs tweaking.
Yaya’s Customization Ideas
This recipe is the perfect blank canvas for all kinds of sweet finishes:
- Toss them in cinnamon sugar right after frying for a cozy twist.
- Drizzle with a simple powdered sugar glaze.
- Add a touch of vanilla or almond extract to the dough for a different flavor profile.
- You can even turn these into filled doughnuts by skipping the hole and piping jelly or custard into them after frying.
