Yaya’s Tips for Success
- To make this cobbler turn out just right, be sure your butter is sizzling hot before adding the batter. That’s what helps the crust get those deliciously crisp edges.
- Don’t stir once you add the batter and fruit—just trust the process! The batter will rise up beautifully around the fruit as it bakes.
- If your fruit is particularly juicy (like frozen berries), you can lightly toss it with a teaspoon of flour to help it set up better.
- Make sure your flour is self-rising—plain flour won’t give the cobbler its lovely lift unless you add baking powder and salt.
Yaya’s Customization Ideas
This cobbler recipe is like a blank canvas for seasonal inspiration.
- Try it with chopped apples and a sprinkle of cinnamon for a fall version, or mix blueberries and strawberries in the summertime.
- If you’re feeding a crowd, double the recipe and bake it in a 9×13-inch dish.
- Want to make it extra decadent? Stir a handful of white chocolate chips into the batter, or sprinkle some coarse sugar over the top for a crackly finish.
