Yaya’s Tips for Success

This hearty and comforting Bacon Pie is one of those recipes that disappears fast every time I make it. A savory blend of smoky crumbled bacon, melty Swiss cheese, and tender bits of onion are tucked into a light, fluffy base made from Bisquick, eggs, and milk. It puffs up golden and sets beautifully, with all the goodness baked right into each slice. I remember my mama making this on lazy Sunday mornings, and we’d gather around the table, wiping our plates clean before seconds were even offered.

  • The key to this dish is in the layering.
  • Be sure the bacon and onions are well drained so your pie doesn’t get soggy.
  • If your blender doesn’t hold all the liquid easily, mix in two parts.
  • I like to cover the edges with foil the last 10 minutes to prevent overbrowning.
  • Don’t skip the resting time, it helps everything firm up nicely when slicing.

Yaya’s Customization Ideas

This recipe is very forgiving and easy to tailor.

  • Try using sharp cheddar, mozzarella, or pepper jack instead of Swiss.
  • For a little kick, stir in some chopped jalapeños or a pinch of red pepper flakes.
  • You can swap out the bacon for cooked sausage or ham, or add a handful of chopped spinach for a bit of color and freshness.
  • It’s also delicious with mushrooms or diced bell peppers added to the filling.
