Yaya’s Tips for Success
These savory little biscuits have been a crowd-pleaser for decades in our family, especially when we’ve got company rolling in early and I need something hearty on the table quick. They’re packed with flavor from the hot sausage and sharp cheddar, and they come together in no time. Here’s how to make sure they bake up just right:
- Use a good quality breakfast sausage for the best flavor. If you don’t want it too spicy, use mild sausage instead.
- Don’t overmix the dough, just stir until it all comes together.
- If your dough feels a little dry, add water a tablespoon at a time. You want it just moist enough to hold together.
- Use a cookie scoop or lightly floured hands to shape evenly sized biscuits so they cook at the same rate.
- These freeze beautifully. You can bake them ahead, cool completely, and pop them in a freezer bag for later.
Yaya’s Customization Ideas
You can easily tailor these biscuits to fit whatever mood you’re in!
- Sometimes I add finely chopped green onions or a dash of garlic powder right in the mix.
- You can also try using pepper jack cheese if you want to kick the spice up a notch.
These biscuits pair beautifully with a cozy bowl of Western Broccoli Salad or even alongside a cup of Onion Casserole for a Southern-style brunch.
