Yaya’s Tips for Success

When you’re craving something warm and comforting, these Southern Crock Pot Grits are a perfect way to start your morning or round out a hearty supper. Slow cooking helps bring out the natural creaminess of stone ground grits, making them rich and velvety without a lot of fuss. Just be sure to stir occasionally and use a large enough cooker to keep things smooth and mess-free.

  • Use a 6-quart slow cooker or larger to avoid boil-overs
  • Stir the grits every 30 minutes to 1 hour to prevent sticking
  • Cooking time can vary based on your preferred texture
  • For extra richness, stir in heavy cream near the end
  • Add salt and pepper at the end to adjust seasoning to taste

Yaya’s Customization Ideas

These grits are a blank canvas and can be tailored to suit a variety of meals.

  • If you’re looking to elevate the flavor, stir in some shredded sharp cheddar or a dash of cayenne.
