Ingredients

  • 8 to 10 lb. ready-to-eat boneless ham
  • Whole cloves
  • ¾ cup light brown sugar
  • 1 cup dark corn syrup
  • 2 tbsp prepared mustard
  • 1 tbsp maple flavoring

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 325°F.
  • Place ham, fat side up, on a rack in a shallow, open roasting pan. Insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part.
  • Bake uncovered for 2½ to 3 hours. Remove from oven to glaze.
  • Increase oven temperature to 450°F. Carefully remove skin from the ham. Using a sharp knife, cut fat into a diamond pattern, being careful not to cut into the meat. Insert cloves at the intersections of the diamonds.
  • Combine brown sugar, corn syrup, mustard, and maple flavoring. Spread half of the glaze over the ham.
  • Bake 10 minutes, then spread remaining glaze and bake another 10 minutes until glossy and caramelized.
  • Let rest before slicing.

Yaya’s Tips for Success

A perfect glazed ham depends on patience and even baking. The glaze should caramelize but not burn, so keep an eye on it in the final steps.

  • Always use a meat thermometer to ensure the ham reaches 140°F before glazing.
  • Don’t skip the diamond cuts; this allows the glaze to soak into the ham beautifully.
  • Use real maple flavoring for the best taste.

Yaya’s Customization Ideas

If you’d like a touch of extra flavor, mix a few tablespoons of pineapple juice or orange marmalade into your glaze. You can also switch maple flavoring for honey if that’s what you have on hand.

This ham pairs perfectly with Hashbrown Casserole or Shirley’s Cole Slaw for a full Southern spread that’s sure to please everyone at the table.
