Ingredients
- 4-5 medium potatoes roughly the same size
- 1 to 1½ cups water
Instructions
- Wash the potatoes well, scrubbing off any dirt or sprouts.
- Place the steamer rack in your Instant Pot and add the water to the bottom.
- Arrange the potatoes in a single layer on the rack.
- Secure the lid and set the valve to “Sealed.”
- Choose Pressure Cook (or Manual) and set the time based on potato size:
- Small: 5–8 minutes
- Medium: 10–12 minutes
- Large: 18–20 minutes
- When the cooking cycle ends, allow a natural pressure release for 10 minutes, then carefully turn the valve to Venting.
- Let the potatoes cool before peeling, slicing, or mashing as desired.
Yaya’s Tips for Success
To get the best results, pick potatoes close in size so they cook evenly.
- Use red or Yukon gold for creamy mashed potatoes.
- Russet potatoes hold up best for salads or roasting.
- Always add at least 1 cup of water for proper pressure buildup.
- For firmer potatoes (great for roasting later), cut cooking time in half.

Yaya’s Customization Ideas
- You can flavor your potatoes right in the Instant Pot by adding herbs, garlic cloves, or even a pat of butter to the water.
- Once cooked, toss them with olive oil and sea salt for a quick side.
