Ingredients

  • 4-5 medium potatoes roughly the same size
  • 1 to 1½ cups water

Instructions

  • Wash the potatoes well, scrubbing off any dirt or sprouts.
  • Place the steamer rack in your Instant Pot and add the water to the bottom.
  • Arrange the potatoes in a single layer on the rack.
  • Secure the lid and set the valve to “Sealed.”
  • Choose Pressure Cook (or Manual) and set the time based on potato size:
  • Small: 5–8 minutes
  • Medium: 10–12 minutes
  • Large: 18–20 minutes
  • When the cooking cycle ends, allow a natural pressure release for 10 minutes, then carefully turn the valve to Venting.
  • Let the potatoes cool before peeling, slicing, or mashing as desired.

Yaya’s Tips for Success

To get the best results, pick potatoes close in size so they cook evenly.

  • Use red or Yukon gold for creamy mashed potatoes.
  • Russet potatoes hold up best for salads or roasting.
  • Always add at least 1 cup of water for proper pressure buildup.
  • For firmer potatoes (great for roasting later), cut cooking time in half.
