This old-fashioned chocolate fudge recipe comes straight from Mama Shirley’s handwritten card, just like the ones she used to make during the holidays. It’s smooth, rich, and melts right in your mouth. A perfect blend of sugar, chocolate, and butter that creates a simple yet decadent treat everyone loves.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • ½ cup water or milk
  • ½ cup light corn syrup
  • 2 squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Mix the sugar with the milk (or water).
  • Add the chocolate and corn syrup, and stir until blended.
  • Boil gently until the mixture reaches the soft-ball stage (about 234°F).
  • Just before removing from the heat, add the butter.
  • Cool slightly, then beat until the mixture thickens.
  • Add vanilla and salt, mixing well.
  • Pour into a buttered pan and let cool.
  • Cut into squares once set.
