These tender, flavorful meatballs are a comforting classic straight from Shirley’s kitchen. A perfect blend of ground beef and pork, they’re seasoned simply with salt, pepper, and fresh onion, then simmered gently in rich tomato sauce. Serve them over warm spaghetti or alongside garlic bread for a hearty family meal that never disappoints.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 pound ground pork
  • 1/2 cup fresh dried bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon grated onion
  • Tomato sauce for cooking

Instructions

  • Combine the ground beef, ground pork, bread crumbs, egg, salt, pepper, and grated onion in a large mixing bowl.
  • Mix gently until ingredients are evenly combined. Avoid overmixing to keep meatballs tender.
  • Shape the mixture into balls about 1½ inches in diameter.
  • Place the meatballs in a large skillet or pan. Add enough tomato sauce to cover them.
  • Cover the pan and cook over high heat until steaming, then reduce to low heat and simmer gently for 45 minutes.
  • Serve hot over cooked spaghetti or your favorite pasta.
